PLYMOUTH — Plymouth County Outreach will be hosting a spring drug take-back event later this month.

The event is in collaboration with the Plymouth Police Department, the Plymouth Fire Department, South Shore Health, the Plymouth Youth Development Collaborative, the HEALing  Communities Initiative and the Plymouth Area Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative.

When:

Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where:

The Plymouth Police Department, 20 Long Pond Road, Plymouth

What:

The drug take-back event, which is being held as part of National Drug Take-Back Day, will allow residents to clean out their medicine cabinets and discard any unwanted or expired prescription medications. No liquids please. The Plymouth Fire Department will also be accepting sharps for disposal.

During the event, Deterra drug deactivation kits will be available to take home free
of charge. Deterra is a drug deactivation system that allows you to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications in your own home.

“This spring take-back event will provide residents with a safe way to dispose of unused or expired medicines and also gain access to more resources and information surrounding the current opioid crisis,” Plymouth County Outreach Program Director Vicky Butler said. “Residents are encouraged to take part in the Narcan training and bring home Dettera drug deactivation kits so they can dispose of medicines at home safely.”

Plymouth County Outreach will have Narcan available for attendees, free of cost, at the event. PCO recovery coaches will also be present for anyone looking for more information/resources on substance use services.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all individuals working or attending the drug take-back event will be required to wear a proper face covering and remain socially distant at all times.
