No Injuries and No Threats Were Made
HULL — Chief John Dunn and Interim Superintendent Judith Kuehn report that a man was arrested and charged after he was found to be trespassing inside Hull High School and had a knife in his pocket.
The man never brandished the knife and no threats were made during the incident. No injuries were reported.
ALVARO RUIZ, AGE 63, OF HULL was charged with:
- Possession of Dangerous Weapon (6-inch steak knife)
- Trespassing
- Disturbing a School Assembly
- Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
- Resisting Arrest
- Disturbing the Peace
At approximately 9 a.m. Friday, the Hull Police School Resource Officer was contacted by school staff at Hull High School who were reporting that there was an unknown adult male inside the school.
Upon making contact with the man, later identified as RUIZ, in a hallway, it was determined that he had no business in the school. RUIZ became belligerent and spat on officers and was placed under arrest.
In searching his pockets, officers found and seized a 6-inch steak knife.
RUIZ was taken back to the Hull Police station to be booked. During the booking process, RUIZ continued to be belligerent.
In viewing video surveillance footage at the high school, school officials determined that RUIZ had been banging on a side door and a student opened the door and let him inside. A teacher quickly confronted RUIZ and immediately notified school officials who contacted police.
The student believed that RUIZ was a staff member.
RUIZ did not go inside any classrooms and remained in one hallway throughout the incident. The incident lasted a matter of minutes.
RUIZ is expected to be arraigned today at Hingham District Court.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
