HULL — Chief John Dunn reports that the Hull Police Department arrested a 15-year-old on gun charges Tuesday.

A 15-YEAR-OLD MALE JUVENILE was arrested Tuesday and charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Interfering with a Police Officer
  • Possession of a Large-Capacity Feeding Device
  • Possession of Ammunition without a Firearms Identification Card
  • Using a Motor Vehicle Without Authority

On Tuesday, July 1, at approximately 11:01 a.m., Hull Police responded to a 911 call reporting that their neighbor’s moped had just been stolen from a home on Bay Street.

Officer John Mercer responded to the area and noticed a male matching the description of the suspect behind a laundry mat on Bay Street. The suspect was walking down the sidewalk, pushing a blue moped that also matched the description given by the caller.

The officer attempted to detain the suspect, who briefly struggled before being placed in handcuffs. The officer began to conduct a pat frisk for weapons, and the suspect again began to struggle and pull away before being successfully detained.

During a search of a fanny pack the suspect was wearing, officers located a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun with a fully loaded 15-round magazine. Officers determined that the suspect was a 15-YEAR-OLD MALE JUVENILE.

Police are working to identify the owner of the handgun. The incident remains under investigation.

The juvenile will be arraigned in Hingham Juvenile Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Hull Police Department Reminds Residents That Fireworks Are Illegal Statewide

June 30, 2025 by Cody Shepard

As the Fourth of July holiday approaches quickly, we would like to remind residents that the recreational use of fireworks is illegal in Massachusetts.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, there have been more than 550 fires and explosions involving illegal fireworks in Massachusetts in the past five years. Six firefighters were injured in these incidents, and damages were estimated at nearly $1 million.

Between 2019 and 2023, Massachusetts medical facilities treated more than 200 people for burns and other injuries associated with fireworks. Two dozen people were treated for severe burn injuries that covered 5% or more of the victim’s body.

The possession, use and sale of fireworks without a professional license is against the law in Massachusetts and punishable by confiscation, fine or imprisonment. Fines range from $100 to $1,000, and some violations could carry a one-year prison sentence.

Please leave fireworks to the professionals!

The National Weather Service defines a “heat wave” as a period of abnormally hot weather generally lasting more than two days. Heat waves can occur with or without high humidity.
