Body of Missing Hull Man Found by Dive Teams

April 19, 2021 by John Guilfoil

HULL — Police Chief John Dunn reports that dive teams recovered the body of a missing Hull man who disappeared after going into Hull Bay late Thursday night to avoid first responders, after fleeing his home during a disturbance call.

The body of Jeffrey Lilja, age 41, of Hull was recovered by Massachusetts State Police divers after sonar scans by a Massachusetts Environmental Police Crew indicated an area of interest approximately 200 feet off shore in approximately 16 feet of water.

The search began around 11:35 p.m. Thursday night, April 15, and had continued every morning since.

Lilja’s body was located at approximately 3 p.m. Sunday and was positively identified. The family has been notified.

Hull Police received assistance from Hull Fire, the Massachusetts State Police Dive Team, State Police Air Wing, Massachusetts Environmental Police and the United States Coast Guard during the search and recovery operations.

Chief Dunn wishes to express his sincere gratitude to the municipal, state and federal agencies that provided assistance in the search.
