Hull Police Charge Contractor with Larceny

November 2, 2022 by

HULL — Chief John Dunn reports that the Hull Police Department has charged a contractor with accepting money from a client for work that he allegedly did not perform.

JENO COMMESSO, AGE 53, of HULL, is charged with:

  • Larceny Under $1,200 by False Pretense (Misdemeanor)
  • Larceny Over $250 from a Person Age 60+/Disabled Person (Felony)

On July 13, a Hull Police officer spoke with a resident who reported that they had contacted COMMESSO, who was working for a company called JAC Property Maintenance, to complete work on their house and deck.

COMMESSO allegedly accepted a $262.50 deposit for the work in May. From May to July, the agreed upon work was never started. The resident then hired a different contractor to do the work and attempted to get their deposit back. The resident made numerous attempts to get their deposit back from COMMESSO, but was not successful.

COMMESSO was summonsed to court and was arraigned in Hingham District Court on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Similar incidents are under investigation in nearby communities and anyone who believes they may have been victimized is encouraged to contact their local police department. Hull residents can call the Hull Police Department at 781-925-1212.

Residents are reminded to only report incidents where they have paid for work that has not been done, the work done was shoddy or if they believe they were unreasonably overbilled. Simply being unpleased with work that was done is not something that should be reported to police.

Residents looking to hire a contractor are encouraged to research potential contractors, check references, obtain multiple quotes, and verify the contractor’s license and insurance.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.

*JOINT RELEASE* Police Investigating After Hull Student Allegedly Shares Threatening Message on Snapchat

January 1, 2020 by jgprstaff

HULL — Superintendent Michael F. Devine and Deputy Chief Neil J. Reilly report that police and school officials are investigating after a Memorial Middle School student allegedly shared concerning and threatening photos on Snapchat earlier today. The two incidents are believed to have stemmed from an argument among multiple students at the school.

At this time there is not believed to be any active threats toward any student or staff member at the school, and classes will resume as planned on Thursday, Jan. 2

At approximately noon on Wednesday, Jan. 1, Memorial Middle School parents alerted police of a concerning photo posted on Snapchat by a female middle school student that showed the student holding what looked like a handgun.

Through the subsequent investigation, police located and seized the gun, which was determined to be a BB gun that closely resembled a real firearm.

Subsequently, at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday evening, police learned from another parent that the same student had shared another post on Snapchat, this time of a threatening nature toward another student. The post contained a message and a photo of what police believe to be the same BB gun.

Superintendent Devine and Memorial Middle School Principal Anthony Hrivnak remained in close contact with Hull Police during both investigations. The student has been disciplined in accordance with the school district’s Code of Conduct policy.

“With classes starting tomorrow, we wanted to act quickly and proactively to ensure that school could open on time and to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” Superintendent Devine said. “We believe that the threatening photo stemmed from an argument between two students, and at this time there is no reason to believe there is any threat to the school community.”

Police do not believe the BB gun was ever fired, and no injuries resulted from the incidents.

A School Resource Officer will be at Memorial Middle School at the start of the school day Thursday.

Both situations are currently under investigation by the Hull Police Department.

Hull Police Provide Update About Anti-Semitic, Racist Graffiti Discovered at Fort Revere Over Labor Day Weekend

September 23, 2019 by Benjamin Paulin

HULL — Chief John Dunn reports that the investigation into racist and anti-Semitic graffiti spray painted at Fort Revere over Labor Day weekend has been closed after multiple juveniles have been charged.

Because the case involves juveniles, and is being processed through the juvenile justice system, there is limited information that can be disclosed publicly about the results of the case and those being charged.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., Monday, Sept. 2, Hull Police were notified that visitors of the park had discovered several pieces of anti-Semitic and racist graffiti. Some 20 different messages and crude drawings were spray painted on the walls and ground of the old fort.

Hull Police officers responded and an investigation was launched by the HPD Detectives Unit.

After seeking the public’s assistance in the case, Hull Police received an anonymous tip from a person who allegedly saw the individuals painting and then departing the area. The tipster was able to provide Hull Police with images they took with their cellphone.

Through the information provided by the anonymous tip and through the investigative efforts of Detective Andrew Reilly, the individuals who spray painted the fort were identified and charged. None of the juveniles charged reside in Hull.

“This was excellent police work by Detective Reilly and I am glad that we were able to identify the suspects and bring closure to this case,” Chief Dunn said. “Hateful acts like these will not be tolerated in Hull and will be investigated to the fullest extent of our abilities.”

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

Hull Police Investigating Anti-Semitic, Racist Graffiti Discovered at Fort Revere

September 4, 2019 by Benjamin Paulin

HULL — Chief John Dunn reports that the Hull Police Department is actively investigating an incident where one or more people recently spray painted anti-Semitic and racist graffiti at Fort Revere.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., Monday, Sept. 2, Hull Police were notified that visitors of the park had discovered several disturbing acts of anti-Semitic and racist graffiti.

Hull Police officers responded and an investigation was launched by the HPD Detectives Unit. Several items of evidence were recovered at the scene, and are currently being processed by the Plymouth County Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

It is believed the incident occurred sometime over Labor Day weekend, between Saturday night and Sunday night.

Some 20 different messages and crude drawings were spray painted on the walls and ground of the old fort.

“The desecration of this historic monument will not be tolerated and to see that the graffiti was anti-Semitic and racist is especially disturbing,” Chief Dunn said. “We will investigate these acts fully and apply the full strength of the law on those responsible. This is not something that will be written off as ‘kids being kids.’ There is no place for hate in our society. These kinds of messages instill fear in members of our community.”

At this time, there are no suspects. However, many of the graffiti messages had a sticker next to them with a purple-faced woman. If anyone recognizes the sticker shown below or has information about this incident, they are asked to contact Hull Police at 781-925-1212.

The Hull Police Department will closely monitor the Fort Revere site and will not hesitate to charge those who are found to be breaking the law.

Fort Revere is an eight-acre historic site situated on a small peninsula located in Hull, atop Telegraph Hill. The site features the remains of two seacoast fortifications, a water tower with an observation deck and a military history museum. It also serves as a burial ground for French soldiers who died fighting during the American Revolution.

“Fort Revere is hallowed ground, and it serve as the final resting place for people who helped our national achieve its freedom,” Chief Dunn said. “Those who desecrated it with messages of hate and intolerance will be prosecuted.”

Chief Dunn wishes to share a message from Rabbi David Grossman of Temple Beth Sholom regarding the graffiti:

Dear Friends:

We will be having a gathering to respond to the act of hate that was recently visited on Fort Revere Park in the form of White Supremacist and Anti-Semitic graffiti. This is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 5 at 10:30 a.m. The fort is located at 60 Farina Road in Hull. Please park on the upper level.

The short program will focus on community, hope and renewal.

Please help our community heal by attending!

Thank you.

Rabbi David Grossman
Temple Beth Sholom
