Hull Police Charge Seven in Connection with Graffiti and Vandalism at Fort Revere

HULL — Chief Robert C. Sawtelle reports that the Hull Police Department arrested and charged seven people today, including adults and juveniles, as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to curb vandalism and graffiti at the historic 200-year-old Fort Revere, which served as coastal battery to protect Boston Harbor and is the burial location of numerous French soldiers who fought alongside Americans during the Revolutionary War.

SAMANTHA FOLEY, AGE 18, OF MARSHFIELD is charged with Possession of Alcohol as a Person Under 21, Tagging, Malicious Destruction of Property Over $250 and Trespassing.

ALEXIS OSBORNE, AGE 18, OF MARSHFIELD is charged with Tagging, Malicious Destruction of Property Over $250 and Trespassing.

KERI MULVEHILL, AGE 18, OF MARSHFIELD is charged with Tagging, Malicious Destruction of Property Over $250 and Trespassing.

JULIA KOLAR, AGE 18, OF MARSHFIELD is charged with Tagging, Malicious Destruction of Property Over $250 and Trespassing.

On July 15, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a Hull Police Officer was patrolling Fort Revere when she noticed a large amount of different colored graffiti, which included vulgar, sexual and racist language, on the walls of the site. The officer then located a group of teenagers at the site, who had spray paint on their hands and bottles of spray paint in their possession.

All seven of the teenagers in the group were arrested and booked at the Hull Police Department. They were released on personal recognizance and will be arraigned at Hingham District Court next week.

Hull officials and the Department of Conservation and Recreation funded the repainting of Fort Revere in June to remove graffiti in several areas, and since then police have stepped up patrols in the area. The Massachusetts State Police have also made multiple arrests over the last couple of weeks for vandalism and trespassing.

“Fort Revere is part of American History, located right here in Hull. It is also hallowed ground for the French, and we will not tolerate its disrespect, destruction or desecration,” Chief Sawtelle said. “This is a quality of life issue for our community, and we stand with our partners in the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Massachusetts State Police in the protection and conservation of Fort Revere.”

The Hull Police Department, along with Massachusetts State Police, will continue to closely monitor the Fort Revere site and will not hesitate to charge those who are found to be breaking the law.

Fort Revere is an eight-acre historic site situated on a small peninsula located in Hull, atop Telegraph Hill. The site features the remains of two seacoast fortifications, a water tower with an observation deck and a military history museum.
